I was a mentor to the year 7’s coming up into my school a while ago, it was something the school asked the students to volunteer for. I thought it was a great idea because I remember when I was a Year 7 and it was nice to have someone older to help me out if I needed help and it was a good experience being a mentor ( as for age they were 11-12).

One of my business professors became my mentor while I was attended university. He helped me not only though course work but also gave me advice on how to find work. He had become a model for me to follow. He was a USAF veteran, a gentleman & scholar, had great mid-western humor and made a great risotto.
We eventually became best friends even though he was much older than I. He was a brother, father and best friend for me. He was always honest with me and was direct in picking out my faults (even in the kitchen) in order to sand and polish the rough edges. He was a great friend to my family and was often present in our thoughts even when he and his lovely wife were teaching in way off Australia and beyond.
I miss Dr. M. very much and my anger at his premature death has finally calmed down. I walk the narrow road today that he has helped me pave for myself knowing that an occasional detour will always take me back to where my heart and thoughts should be.

I had a mentor my first year of teaching. It was ok, he was helpful…..the school provided the service because he was just another teacher who worked in the building I could work with. It lasted my whole first year teaching. I would recommend this for new teachers.
